The first city in the world to go Green Monday!
Reducing meat and dairy in our diets is the easiest and most effective way to reduce GHG emissions. On September 13, 2018, the Berkeley City Council voted unanimously to adopt Green Monday citywide.
How Berkeley Does Green Monday
- The Berkeley City Council procures plant-based meals for their meetings and events.
- City owned-and city-managed facilities and programs feature healthy plant-based meals on Mondays and identify them as Green Monday Specials.
- Restaurants are encouraged to add plant-based “Green Monday Specials” to their menus.
- Green Monday volunteers and interns table at farmers’ markets, fairs, and other community events.
- City Council members schedule educational programs at libraries, community centers, and private homes in their respective districts.
- Libraries and community centers display Green Monday posters and booklists.
